Part Numbering Scheme and File Nameing

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a part numbering scheme to work well with iProperties settings on drawings where the part number is used in the title block. I currently use a scheme that makes a part number XX-XXXX-Part Title and this works really well for the file names but the drawing then has the part title in the part number block and nothing in the part title box.

Ideal result:

Part Number iProperty: XX-XXXX

Part Title iProperty: Part Title

Filename: XX-XXXX-Part Title

Thanks!

What version of Inventor and Vault are you using?

Can you post screen shots of both your part number scheme setup in Vault, and your title block sketch in Inventor, so we can see what you have mapped where?

Have you thought about using iLogic to concatenate the fields together?

You could have it execute during an On Save event.

I'm using Inventor and Vault 2018 but would like the solution to work with 2017 as well.

I've tried to make the title block image as clear as possible. The top box uses the Title iProperty from the part and the bottom box uses the part number and revision iProperties.

The iLogic method works but I haven't found a way to trigger it when checking a part in without saving before then and I was hoping for a neater method than writing a script. It is a pretty good method but not quite ideal.

Thanks!

Can you post of pic of your desired title block result?
I see where the fields are mapped but just want to understand your expectations.

The attached title block is what I'm aiming for.

The filename would be PA-0521-PART TITLE with the iProperty part number PA-0521 and Title iProperty PART TITLE.

The part number box will ideally show the revision of the part as well (the 02 in this case).

Thanks!

Not sure if this will prodcue exactly what you want but you can use functions in iProperty boxes by placing an equal sign in the value and then enclosing the desired property in the < > brackets. I am showing a custom iProperty created which concatenates the Part Number and Revision iProperties.
II then placed the custom iProperty into my Title block and got the result shown below.

You can find a little more info on using the iProperties in functions here.
