Opening older version of Inventor file

Hi all!

When I'm trying to open an older version of an assembly Inventor updates it automatically to the most recent version.

This occurs using the following steps:

1. Get older version (force overwrite possibly) of a certain assembly.

2. Go to the working folder.

3. Open the designated file (or via Inventor).

4. Popup shows asking to update (select no).

5. The selected file is fully loaded however it is the most recent version and not the one selected.

I've tried it by deleting al files on my harddrive which are used in the assembly, deleting all old-versions, clearing all temp files. 

The only working solution is to check out the assembly, then get the older version. 

Does anyone know a solution?

Are you performing the Get by selecting the version in the History tab on the file?

Can you share a video or images of this happening?

You might be getting the older assembly, but the subcomponents could have been left intact on your local disk (with their latest versions) if you got the content from Vault without subcomponents. That could resemble as if the assembly was never opened as the previous version.

Make sure you right-click Get the correct ROW under the History tab, showing the version of the assembly you wish to open, and Select the "Include Children" box on the Get screen to include all subcomponents. Then, if you have not yet checked out the assembly, you can always right-click Get and highlight the checkout box, then change the pull-down menu to "None", so it only checks out the file and does not download anything.

Deleting literally everything connected to said assembly (including all library parts etc.) does not result in the correct version. But what if I want the old-assembly with the updated components? That should also be possible right (when there are no derived parts, associative sketches etc).

So far I haven't found a working solution that doesn't involve checking out the file.

To get the old assembly with newest components just do a normal Get operation on the top assembly with all latest components, then perform another Get operation without including children/associated files for the top assembly, picking the version of that assembly you want from the History tab.
