Multiple .ipj files being created somehow

I am not certain if this should be under an Inventor forum or a Vault forum, so forgive me if I have posted in the wrong area.

Quick overview of our Mechanical Engineering department:

18 Inventor and Vault users (Inventor Pro 2017 and Vault Pro 2017)

Vault server on the network

Local "Vault Working Folder" set up for every user where the Vault server is mimicked (see below)

Vault Working Folder.PNG

Some of our users experience multiple .ipj files being created in a Temp location, which also show up in their "Projects". (see below)

multiple ipj.png

The multiple Vault Master Projects DO NOT show up within the 'Vault Working Folder' shown above, but in a 'Temp' folder with a directory structure that mimics the 'Vault Working Folder'. (see below)

temp projects.png

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Why are these multiple 'Vault Master Project.ipj' files being created, and why are all of these temp folders being created? What can I do to stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, @TYoung_Combi ,

If the users are using Create DWF or View in Window commands, the files get downloaded to C:\Temp folder.

Our options are set up to always create a DWFX file, so would that option cause the problem?  Also, would viewing a file in window or creating a DWFX create multiple .ipj files?

Hi @TYoung_Combi ,

DWF and DWFx are using the same technique in the back end.

When you "update view" on an IPT file,  the project file gets downloaded to c:\temp\GUID; The selected file gets downloaded to the workspace (i.e, relative to the project). Next, the file will be opened in Inventor / Inventor Server to generate DWF/DWFx. Then, it will be uploaded to the Vault and linked to the file. Finally, the files in C:\Temp folder will be deleted. In some case, it may have been left orphaned due to some unknown factors.

Viewing in Window (if DWFx is associated) will NOT download project files (IPJ) to Temp folder. However, if the selected file does not have an association with DWFx, it will be downloaded to Temp folder and Inventor Viewer will be used to view the file.

Madhan

Madhan,

If I do a "View in Window" from Vault Pro 2018, the entire vault folder structure all the way to the file is downloaded to the c:\temp folder.  This includes the ipj and all related files.  When the Inventor View window is closed,  all the files that were downloaded are not deleted, but left there forever-more unless I manually delete them with Windows file explorer.

Now, sometimes (have not nailed down exactly why) when Inventor is restarted, it will see be set to this ipj and Inventor will list it in the available projects.

Hi, @karthur1 ,

One of the reasons is given in the following link and it is still being investigated.
