Is there any way to check out ALL items in an assembly from vault?

First off, I KNOW this is not how it's supposed to work, but let me explain.

I am a subcontractor, working for a company that uses vault. I have to access vault over VPN to connect to it. The companies IT company will not allow my laptop to connect to their VPN, as they don't manage it. The company therefore has leant me a laptop they do manage to be able to use their vault, but it's horrendously slow, near unusable. This is partly down to the computer, and partly down to the VPN, other people with faster company laptops when working from home have similair issues, but it is improved slightly when diconnecting from the VPN, it doesn't when using the machine I have.

So... We came up with the solution I currently use to batch export drawings (as using vault job processor has never worked properly...), I create a standard project file and work off a cloud drive, same as I used to before they got vault. The vault working folder is synced to the cloud, so I can use it on my (considerably more powerful) laptop, and this works perfectly for creating drawings, etc. Therefore, the idea going forward is that we create a VM machine on their server with my copy of vault (I only use it for this company autodesk admins, it's WAY too much of a headache for me to use it for any of my other clients!), which I use for uploading and downloading things from vault, and then I work on my laptop. 

TLDR... I need to be able to check in/out SOLELY from the vault program, not Inventor, as my Inventor will NOT be directly connected to the vault. Is there any way to take a drawing/assembly from vault, and check out everything? Not just top level? (and likewise, check it all back in afterwards?).

We have tried for 6 months to get it working as its supposed to, and its just not possible over VPN.

You can perform a "Get" from the Vault. Then you can check "Include Children" and "Check out files" options. I would use caution on this as it will check out everything, including content center parts. I am not sure what it will do for files in released state. I assume it will prompt that you do not have permission and ask if you want to continue with files you do have permission for. I would be sure to get another file after with these options off so you don't accidently do it with the next file, it will remember your settings. To check back in might be a little more difficult. Vault really wants you to use Inventor to do that. You can also use the "Uses" tab and check out individual files. I keep a saved search of everything I have checked out, which could be another path to check them back in.

If you keep everything in same folder, you can check in and check out the folder.

Brilliant, that certainly looks to be the way in terms of checking out, and If I expand the box I can see all the files it's doing. Ignore library files is an option on that, so that solves the content centre issue.

So, I had a meeting with my customers vault expert (he was out on site last week), and it would appear that Vault auotloader may be the solution for checking everything back in again afterwards. I'll give that a try and report back...
