Desktop OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Laptop OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

For a while now I have been runnning Vault Basic (client ans server installed on desktop PC) without fail. at times when traveling I would checkout files that i planned to work on from vault on my desktop and transfer them to my laptop (not running vault). I recently learned that it is possible to connect my laptop to the Vault server on my desktop butam not aware on how to go about this. Basically what i am looking for is the ability to (with Vault client installed on laptop) connect to vault server from my laptop so that i can check in and check out files. My understadning is that a VPN is needed for this. does anyone have any informatino on how i would go about setting this up?

I was looking at Hamachi VPN by Logmein since i already use Logmein Pro to remote into my desktop from my laptop.

Probably not the right place for advice on how to create and manage a VPN connection but yes that should work.  If you're not comfortable with fumbling through settings in an unknown unfamiliar system to make it work, maybe get in touch with a local IT consultant, it shouldn't be a big job.

There's a load of different VPN solutions, for what you want I don't think you'll need anything fancy.  I have a home office VPN which is provided through my router, the Asus RT-AC68U.  This has the function for being a VPN server, I can connect to my router from anywhere in the world and open up access to my home systems.  There might be cheaper and simpler options available, but that's the one I personally use.
