Copy/Paste or Drag/Drop folders

So, we have a set template project folder with sub-folders that we use over and over for each project.

Why are we not able to copy & paste/drag & drop these into the vault working folder, name, and start using them?

No, we have to create the folder structure in Windows File Explorer then copy & paste/drag& drop.

This is...silly (editing for sensitive ears/eyes).

Am I missing something? Not the first, nor last time.

I am really getting tired of having to develop numerous workarounds just to keep my people up and running.

Have you tried the Copy Folder option in Vault (2024).? This is what we use to eliminate what you are describing, create in Vault with the Copy folder feature and use Get function as needed to get the folder structure to your working folder.

You don't have to recreate the folder structure in File Explorer if you simply drag the top folder out from Vault to download it, rename it, and then drag it all back in (by the top folder again).
It used to be that you needed to use Vault's left browser pane to do this successfully (keeping all the subfolders), but I see now that even if you drag it from the main/center panel it should download all subfolders (with eventual files in between) intact too.

@Frederick_Law these are blank/empty folders at this point still.

Like so: ProjectTemplate.PNG

I should be able to copy this folder structure, name it accordingly and start using them.

I can understand a restriction or the like for folders with datasets in them.

@rtowne72 , we're still on 2023 for the time being.

Did they add this feature for 2024? I have to assume so based on your post.

If so, just another reason for me to update.

Hey, that does work! Thank you @Gabriel_Watson

Still not ideal and still should be possible in Vault itself, but at this point, it's a little quicker and easier and that's a win at this point.

Yeah, you're welcome. I used to also pair up some categorization rules for excel sheets (checklists for projects and such) or word docs (forms and standard procedure files) included in my other company's project folder structure template. When you move those by dragging them back in, either by property or file format, they would also get auto-categorized. Pretty nifty.
