Bug Report: Vault crashes when adding item to ECO

When adding an item to an ECO, the search tools results grid fails to generate and the result field displays an orange X, then Vault immediately crashes.  It now happens every time I try to add an item, restarting Vault and the computer have no effect. I've tried it on multiple ECOs and with multiple item numbers--all have the same behavior now. This has essentially made me dead-in-the-water and unable to use our ECO process.

Are the items you wish to add properly updated and current?

Perhaps the items being added require files that do not have items properly assigned to them.

I have had this issue before as well. The first time it happened, I reset all of my AppData for vault but the problem came back later. The only other alternative is to add Items in the Item Master tab, but this takes more time.

Yes, all of the items I've tried adding are either already released or up-to-date.

I tried a workaround that others have suggested for similar errors (deleting the ApplicationPreferences.xml file in the AppData folder tree). Unfortunately, that didn't work.

I did some tests and discovered that if I search for a string that couldn’t be related to any item (e.g. “ASDFASFASFASFASF”) it won’t crash, it’ll just say “no items match that criteria”. However, if I search for something like “123” (which could be in the name of many items) or a specific item, it will crash.

So it clearly has to do with populating the search results, not the actual search function. Which makes sense given the big X in the window.

Our IT department found a workaround for this here:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

Specicially doing this solved the issue:

Delete the "GridState.xml" from "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Vault Professional 2021\Servers\[server name]\Vaults\[Vault name]\Objects".
