Automatically applying "checked by" initials and date using the Vault ECO process?

Most title blocks have a section for the initials and the date that a drawing is checked. When a drawing gets checked in the Vault ECO process, how can that information be automatically applied?

My Autodesk reseller is talking about workarounds, but I feel like this should be possible without workarounds. Is it?

What is the workflow for automatically applying date and initials when users review and approve drawings using the Vault Professional ECO process?

Funny how @CGBenner might have just asked the same question before he joined Autodesk:

I think the answer lies here:

You basically affect ITEMS when working with ECOs, so you need to map an Item property to your file property, in such a way that the ECO will affect that and cascade it down to the file. I have not tested this workflow but it seems correct.
