Autodesk Vault Basic and Microsoft Azure compatibility

Hi, I'm hoping this is a straight forward question.

I am currently running Autodesk Product Design Suite Ultimate 2015 (two licences) on an on-site server. I am looking at installing Product Design Suite Ultimate 2019 but I need to upgrade our server.

I would like to have Microsoft Azure Cloud Server - but I have heard that Vault Basic is not compatible? And that I will need either Vault Workgroup or Vault Professional (Extra cost per month/year)

Can someone please shed some light on this?

Many thanks,

Raj.

That is correct. You can only use Vault Workgroup or Professional in a hosted cloud environment as it requires the use of licenses. Vault Basic has no license activation and therefore cannot be used in Azure or AWS.

Can you elaborate to this limitation?

My understanding is that communication between client and server is done through IIS and HTTP protocol. What does licence activation have to do with client to server communication?

Are you saying it works but is not supported OR that it doesn't not work?

My response is not about what works and what doesn't work. Please review our Virtual Installation Guidelines about what is permitted to be virtualized.

Hi Irvin,

Thanks for that weblink - It also takes me to the Virtualization Exclusions List - but Vault Basic is not on the list?

I currently have 2 x Product Design & Manufacturing Collection 2020 licences which contains Vault Basic (single user) and that weblink suggests that it can be installed in a Virtual Environment. It then says that "However, only one authorized user can access a single license at any given time, allowing you to stay compliant with licensing guidelines" - I have 2 users, using 2 seperate licences so that should be okay?

Sorry, I need to make a correction. You are allowed to host Vault Basic Server in a virtual environment.

This was changed in November of 2018.
