Notes or flags on saved versions

Notes or flags on saved versions

As I progress through a design of a part, there will be points in the process where I can foresee wanting an easy route back to. Kind 'forks in the road' where we have to make a decision but where there isn't any reason either path isn't possible. At these points, it would be helpful to be able to save in a version and leave myself a note saying "this is when that decision was made" so if I need to revert that decision, I'm easily able to pull that exact version of the part and restart from that point.

I think I've seen this kind of functionality in Solidworks PDM (ie., "Enter a comment to identify the version" here), but I'm not aware of any way to leave these kinds of notes on Upchain versions. When I've had to find old versions in Upchain, I've generally had to guess when I thought the change might have been made, which could be any of sometimes 100+ saved-in versions with nothing to go on except the date in the item history that the version was created.

This would need both a way to create the notes in an item's history and a way to easily view all the version notes.

Note: In the absence of this functionality, we're instead creating clones of entire assemblies with dedicated items to 'bookmark' a state of an assembly. This is creating a significant amount of redundant data just because there's no easy way to find and get back to a previous state in an item's history.

Hi @imckenzieY7CGY,

You can leverage the Change Description to achieve a similar flow. (Upchain Help Documentation) Furthermore, you can enforce the Change Description via the tenant property "file.version.change.description.mandatory" and have it viewable as a table column attribute as well
