VIDEO TIP: Mapping Item and CAD attributes

Welcome to our Tips & Tricks video, part of an ongoing series for Upchain! I'm Ryan and my teammates and I will post bite-sized videos you can use to level up your Upchain skills.

Today we show you how you can map your CAD properties into Upchain as item attributes, as well as map item attributes to your CAD properties. We also take a look at inserting attribute codes into a CAD drawing, which enables Upchain to automatically update your translation files upon release - for example, revision information and various item attributes. Together, these tips help your team save time by reducing manual data entry.

Great video Ryan 😄

At aprox 3:00 you are talking about mapping properties from Upchain to CAD. It is possible to edit "Item description" in the web browser and the iProperty "Description" updates in Inventor.

My question is; is it possible to edit "Description" in the Upchain Inventor add in? (I'm not able to do it.) (See attached picture)

Hey Hans, thanks for the question! Glad that our content is engaging 😀

Yes you should be able to read or write most iProperties in Upchain. I've just tested it on my end and it is working as expected.

My best guess would be that either your read mapping setting has not been configured correctly or perhaps you have misspelled or miss-referenced the Item Description parameter in Upchain. Please check the screenshot below for correct settings. You want Upchain to read the the Description property from Inventor.

If none of this helps, I would ask which version of Inventor you are using?

You can try using a brand new part, created from scratch, possibly in a different tenant if possible - and test if the function is working in this instance.

Let us know how it goes!

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing? I don't have any issues writing properties from Inventor to Upchain, neither from Upchain to Inventor. But the later just from the web browser, not from the Upchain add in in Inventor. In the add in it is greyed out. Se attached video.
