Hello All,
I released some assemblies in upchain with the assembly drawings.
It seemed that upchain released the children parts in the assembly.
The problem is that some of the parts do not have drawings and they need them
It seems in upchain as soon as you check out the part it makes it in Development already.
Question: Is there a way to make a drawing for these parts without making a revision to the part that was released?
Or do we have to rev to the next rev letter in order to make the drawings?
Thanks
Tan Mar

hello, the short answer to your question is yes, you have to revise to checkin the drawing with its related 3D CAD file (.prt / .SLDASM, etc.) - in further detail, drawing files are checked in and in-conjunction with the assembly or part. if the assembly or part 3D CAD file has been checked in and the item is in the Released status, you won't have permissions to perform a subsequent checkin without revising. this is a fundamental principle of PLM/PDM. obviously when possible, it's best to leave these CAD items in the initial Development status before routing for approvals and ultimately released for production. you could consider configuring your workflows for CR's to check for drawings if that would be helpful as well.
Just to add to what Tommy said, drawings can be created and attached via your CAD software and plugin after creating the item, but they will need to be in development. This is the recommended use.
You could add the drawings via the web app's import feature (import -> drawing) and this will work even if its released. Just keep in mind that it wont create that live link between model and drawing.
Lastly if you need more info on creating drawings post item creation, or creating the checks for drawings in your workflow, we go over this quite in-depth in our Change Management Webinar every other week
