My daughter is attending a business college and doing a theory paper on where CAD business might go in the future, and was wondering if some could answer a few questions using Autodesk as an example please? She chose Autodesk due to wide industry use and long history with experience users in the industry.
1/ What are the most popular software products in the manufacture sector?
Is the market share stable? Are there frequent new entrants?
2/ Different software might target different manufacturing sector.
Does Autodesk have any unique positioning/ products/ features that other softwares can't compete?
3/ Autodesk appears not as competitive in 3D modeling as it is in 2D designing.
Why isn't Autodesk's 3D as strong? What are the pitfalls Autodesk faces?
4/ As the marketing trend is shifting from 2D to 3D modeling, do you think Autodesk will lose ground in manufacturing CAD?
5/ What factors do you consider when you or your company choose among softwares?
6/ Is the switching cost high? AKA: if you already chose a software, is it easy to switch to another one?
7/ How might AI change the usage of CAD? Do you think new AI-supported softwares have a chance to replace CAD or Autodesk?
