Classification Systems are the building block of the value that Tandem brings to customers. Classifications are the starting point for how element and asset data are organized. Before uploading a custom classification system, it is essential to confirm that the one being used is required of the project at handover. Updating to a new classification system later will create quite a bit of work. If MasterFormat is the classification system of choice, you can get started right away as this is the default classification system in Tandem.
Open the Classifications Tab in the left side menu from the Manage screen. MasterFormat and Uniformat are already uploaded for your convenience*, with MasterFormat being the default in Tandem. These two classification systems can be found in the Select Classification Dropdown and any previously uploaded custom classification systems.
*Uniformat and MasterFormat cannot be updated or edited as they are. To customize these, follow the steps for uploading a custom classification system below
Uploading a Custom Classification System
- Select a classification template from the dropdown.
- Click Download. This exports an editable template of the system.
- Open the template in Excel or another spreadsheet app and edit as needed.
- Click + Add Classification to import and save the custom classification to your system.
Updating an existing Classification System
- Follow Steps 1 and 2 above.
- Select the classification system that needs to be updated.
- Above the code column, click Update.
- Drag and drop your file or click to select.
- Click Update.
Key Points to Remember
- Only files with extension .xlsx are accepted.
The custom classification system is ready to use. Don't forget to double-check that all classifications have been uploaded correctly and are in the correct hierarchical order.
