Monday – In-person
- BLD602851 | 2D Record Drawings to Asset-Rich BIM Model in Autodesk Tandem
Monday, Nov 13
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM PST
This session will explore how Hazen and Sawyer pilot tested Autodesk Tandem software with Aurora Water in Colorado throughout the last year. Aurora Water’s goal was to convert a portion of an existing facility from 2D record drawings to an asset-rich 3D model in Autodesk Tandem. Aurora Water also wanted QR codes/RFID tags placed on the assets in the facility to allow operations and maintenance staff to access various electronic information about the assets while on site. Autodesk Tandem would contain the 3D model with asset information, links to O&M manuals, and links to information contained in QR codes/RFID tags.
- PLT603024 | Autodesk Tandem Implementation for a Wastewater Facility
Monday, Nov 13
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM PST
Definitions of digital twins are becoming similar. However, the use of digital twins varies widely, and asking 10 people about their use could yield 10 different responses. This is a story about a spatial twin and how the users began to learn the value of spatially aggregated data to help support facility operations and maintenance. Autodesk Tandem software can be used to add practical and tangible value for operations and maintenance staff. Autodesk Tandem provides us with an easy way to enable a spatial twin, leading to unmatched and simplified ways to view complex data by maximizing the rich visual aspects of building information modeling (BIM). Learn about opportunities that Autodesk Tandem can provide, lessons learned about implementation, working through the documentation of use cases, and possibilities for the future.
- 1321 | Data and Digital Twins
Monday, Nov 13
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM PST
A digital twin is a digital replica of a physical entity or system that continuously informs and is informed by the real world. For a building, the digital twin can map heating, cooling, power, plumbing, and any other functioning building systems. It can track traffic and space usage by people as well as maintenance needs. And with the right data and analytics, it can start to predict problems so that you can avoid downtime. Eventually, digital twins can even use AI to respond to problems—adjusting temperature and other operational variables automatically in response to input. Digital twins are fueled by data. The more current the data and the more accurate the analytics they use, the better they can simulate and predict real-world conditions. Join experts in built-asset digital twins to see how dynamic, high-fidelity data is transforming building design and operations. Although we encourage enrolment for the Theater, seating will be based on a first come, first served basis.

- BLD600455 | Reframing Our Future with Digital Twins and Building Logbooks
Monday, Nov 13
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM PST
According to GRESB’s 2022 data (the global ESG benchmark for real-estate financial products), 2025 is the estimated average expiration date for the market attractiveness of offices worldwide in terms of meeting CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) energy efficiency standards. In other words, as we move toward net-zero emissions by 2050, the market value of a building that does not achieve the required energy efficiency rating is likely to decrease. It's vital the building sector adopts circular economy principles, moving away from the linear "take, make, dispose" model toward a more sustainable and regenerative approach that prioritizes resource efficiency, reuse, and recycling. Digital twins support the operational phase of a building and develop into digital logbooks, which is crucial at end of life because its help ensure safe and sustainable decommissioning/repurposing, preserves valuable information, and supports compliance with regulations and standards.

- BLD601350 | (Not) Just Another Digital Twins Presentation
Tuesday, Nov 14
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM PST
The digital twin is a concept resulting from the advance and convergence of many different technologies. This has both complicated and over-simplified industry discourse on the topic. Often lost in the discussion about the tech and the solution vendors is what a digital twin describes (the virtualization of a real-world thing or process), the value proposition (capitalizing on digital technologies to improve how we understand, predict, and manage change to our built world), and how to properly engage with the concept (starting with use cases!). Sean OIcott, VP of product and innovation at Gafcon Digital, will join Casey Mahon, senior manager of customer adoption at Autodesk Tandem, to provide a background on the concept, a summary of current and future design and construction use cases, an evaluation of solution vendors on the market, and a demonstration of an example construction use case—the Smart Jobsite—using Autodesk Tandem software.

Tuesday, Nov 14
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM PST
The construction industry made the move to building information modeling (BIM) more than a decade ago using tools like Revit software to improve design and construction. From an FM perspective, the industry is now moving toward smarter buildings, and digital twins are becoming increasingly important. Ironically, depending on who you ask, industry experts will agree on applications for digital twins, but they often cannot agree on a definition. In this session, a diverse panel of experts will discuss different aspects of digital twins and definitions. We’ll present an overview of digital twins and the results of IT Community of IFMA’s “Annual Digital Twin Survey.” The presentation will then move to a discussion where panelists will share their insights into current and future applications of digital twins using tools like Autodesk Tandem software. This session will help clarify what a digital twin is; what should be expected as a deliverable from the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry; and the level of adoption within FM.

- PM600632 | Digital Twins for Different People, Different Ways of Working, and Different Industries
Wednesday, Nov 15
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM PST
When creating or converting production facilities, the digital twin is an often-mentioned buzzword. With IFM (integrated factory modeling), Autodesk platforms offer a broad portfolio of solutions to digitally support the areas of layout planning, architecture, and MEP in collaboration. This process does not end with the commissioning of production but helps you to control and optimize the factory digitally with sensors afterwards. With the new platform technology Manufacturing Informed Design, we will show you how the manufacturer of a solar plant can provide the architect with a configuration template in Autodesk Construction Cloud. The architect then returns all the necessary information for subsequent production to the manufacturer via the platform. In a further step, you will see how sensors help us to optimize the system to obtain the maximum performance for sustainable production.

- CS602806 | Should We Choose ACC Build as our Primary CM Platform?
Wednesday, Nov 15
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM PST
Like most firms, Hazen is at times, unable to dictate which CM platform is used on every project. However, for the last several years we have an internal preferred solution that is not ACC Build. In late 2022 we began pilot testing Autodesk Build with the goal of the pilot being to determine whether we should begin integrating ACC Build going forward. If yes, should we use Autodesk Build on certain projects alongside our other platform, or should it replace that platform entirely? What we hope to gain from this pilot is identifying the feature and workflow differences between the two platforms, and whether Autodesk Build can provide an advantage in transferring our asset-ready intelligent models through construction and as-built into a digital twin / facility management product like Autodesk Tandem. This pilot project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, but we wanted to share our experiences so far and provide some insight into our findings.
