The Stream Charts are an essential visual aid for Facility Monitoring and investigating performance trends. Autodesk Tandem displays historic facility data in highly responsive and interactive time series charts. To achieve these, Tandem runs analytics in the background to capture the minimum and maximum values measured by the Stream’s device over regular time intervals. These max and min values are displayed as the gray bar, while the blue line is the mean of the values collected.
Remember that these grey bars are intended as a visual aid; they can cue you to where you might have outliers in an otherwise predictable dataset. To narrow down the time frame and see the raw data in detail, hover your mouse in line with an outlier and hold Ctrl while you scroll in on the chart. Once you have enough pixels on the screen, the measured values will pop into view.
To quickly adjust the timeframe, click and drag the chart forward or backward in time or use the calendar picker.
Want to zoom in to a tighter range of values on the y-axis? Use the menu to turn off ‘Auto scale’ and hold Ctrl while you scroll your mouse wheel over the axis.
For larger ranges of time (greater than 8-10 hours), Tandem shows consolidated summaries of the min/max/mean when zoomed out of the chart. This brings the added benefit of Tandem’s charts being fast and playful. Want to look at all your time-series history at once? Hold Ctrl while you scroll out on the chart. As you do, the granularity of data adjusts to fit the screen. Keep an eye on the chart legend to know what timeframe is being presented. This adjusts in increments from 15 minutes up to whole weeks so you can quickly find trends in the data that span across months or years.
A great way to utilize the charts is when there is a failure with equipment. When sensors are configured to send data to Tandem, the charts can provide quick insight into what was going on with the equipment leading up to a failure. Insights that would otherwise require logging into the system the sensor is associated with and losing the context of the 3D model. Time could be better spent resolving or repairing the issue rather than diagnosing the problem.
One of the ways that the Charts help this workflow is by being able to select multiple data connections, pick a date range, and filter by sensor parameter. Allowing users to see and compare trends quickly.
Another option is to focus on a single Stream and compare data over two distinct time periods. To do so, expand any chart in the panel and click the duplicate chart icon. This will present the same Stream in a second chart to compare month-to-month, week-to-week, or day-to-day.
*The image above shows the same connection, but you’ll notice that the time and dates are staggered. This is because duplicate graphs can be interacted with independently.
The Stream Charts are just one of the ways Tandem provides easy access to data for a facility. Providing the facility management teams with the opportunity to decrease time spent on repairs and be more proactive about addressing equipment issues.
