Download previous updates from Autodesk account

Download previous updates from Autodesk account

Add the possibility to download previous updates for Vault products, directly from the Autodesk account on "https://manage.autodesk.com/home".

Currently, it is only possible to download current updates for Vault products.
For example, for version 2023, it is currently possible to download updates 2023.3 and 2023.3.1.

However, I'd like to download Vault Client updates 2023.2 and 2023.2.1 so that I can reinstall a workstation with the updates currently present on the Vault server (ADMS).

Why?

100% agree, we need to have acces to old update.
Why? Because if you have an “Autodesk Data Management Server” under a certain level of update (for example 2023.2), you MUST have all client’s computers under the same level of update 2023.2. It’s not possible to have the server under 2023.2 and the computer under 2023.3.

Updating a Vault site must be planned with a test phase before updating in production. It’s a process of minimum 1-2 days with tests for end-user, etc.

In the situation where you need to install a new computer, we need to install a vault client + Inventor with an old update 2023.2 = ~2hours of work
If you don't have access to old release => 1-2 days of works.

Thank you for posting the idea.

All product follow the same policies when it comes to available updates.

Our goal, as a company, is to keep everyone on the latest updates so that they are working with the latest fixes available.

@ihayesjr : Hi, sorry but it's not applicable in real life... Consider this scenario:

A site with 300 Vault Professional seat, installed in R2023.2

The customer want to install 1 more seat but the last update of Vault is R2023.3.1

With the actual policiy, this customer need to update 300 seats + 1 ADMS to R2023.3.1 just for 1 new seat?

Updating a Vault site (middle to big site) is not a "small" action. It needs test phase, etc as you know. Then for this specific situation, Autodesk must provide a solution in my humble opinion to download old update. A least, only for administrator or for reseller or with a "specific request" to obtain the update (where you can put as much warning you want aboutusing old update).

It's not so rare to see an update introducing a bug where it's better to stay under an old release and wait a fix.

Thanks in advance to reconsider the status of this idea who is a real need for customers and resellers.

So, from September 19 2023, when a customer will download the Vault client setup to install it on his new computer, he will have the last update include... Hand he cannot download vanilla setup, and neither download the same service pack version that the one is already installed in his ADMS.  It means that he will have to update the ADMS and all the 50 other computers that have a Vault client already installed to stay in Autodesk requirements:
"All clients and servers should be upgraded at the same time to the Vault Update level"...https://help.autodesk.com/view/VAULT/2024/ENU/?guid=Vault_ReleaseNotes_CLC_updates_updates_install_i...
Interesting…

Please re-open this one! I fully agree with the idea.

So far we download updates as soon as they are available and store them in our growing collection of software installers.

Bear in mind, that other than a very few occasions ( indicated in the readme ) Autodesk state 'Should ' be updated at the same time, NOT 'Must ' be updated at the same time.

It is perfectly possible ( but probably not advisable ), to have a mix of patches between Server & Client

There are plenty of occasions where an update on the Server could be applied, where 300 Clients can be left at their own 'lower' level or alternatively, a few Clients updated, with the Server left as is due to the size of data involved and the downtime it would cause

Service packs are released for a reason, so if you can install, you should, but its doesn't ( usally ) say you must

I would have loved to vote for this - if possible!

I will second this request, and it has also been raised with the Enterprise Account Team.

There are numerous reasons as stated above, for the need of downloading and installing an earlier version.

For example to be able to reproduce certain errors in a similar test environment for Autodesk Support.

It could be implemented as an extra filter in the listing - where "Show Only Latest" is ON by default, and you actively have to untick, to see earlier versions.

It is a real need!

As previously stated, the is an Autodesk policy that all produces follow. I am going to move this post to a different Idea board.

Yeah they don't really care. Most companies these days don't seem to care what it is their customers actually want.

So just like every other time we have asked for this feature the response is of course that yhe companies know what's best for everyone in every use case, and if we don't like it then that's too bad! Maybe when we make our own 3D CAD software we can then decide to allow old versions to be installed!

What an attitude to have towards paying customers indeed.
