I have work with Autodesk software for more than 25 years, and seen a lot of strange changes done by Autodesk.
However, the transition to named user is without question the worst change I have seen.
In our company we have 50 network licenses and a ETR-agreement.
Some of use are full-time users, some are part-time users, and some uses the software seldom.
On the 26 PDcollection licences, we have 79 unique users this year, so 1->2 licenses will not be a good deal for us.
The users are employed by different sister-companies, thus the ETR-agreement is very useful (although expensive).
Today it is very easy to distribute software to whoever needs it, it's just install the deployment package on their computer.
If forced to switch to named users, we have to:
- Establish Autodesk users for all users.
- Keep track on who are leaving the company or no longer need a license.
- Keep track on which company each user is employed by (which may change).
- Keep track on how many licenses we are using.
This is back 10-15 years in time with only single licenses….
So WHY change a good system (for the customers) to a bad one????
(Of course, Autodesk want to squeeze more money out of the customers.)
This will cost time and money for the our company, and I will recommend to my bosses that we consider to change to a different software….
