If we just bought 3 year sub, when does per-user based licensing start?

I read the announcement on retiring multi-user seats on first renewal.

Two questions (one joke):

1) I assume this means no more flexlm usage once you switch?

2) if we bought 3 year sub, is our next renewal the date to change, or do they mean "next year no matter what"?

3) is it illegal to buy Hexagon Geospatial stock, knowing this just happened?

@JamesMaeding

There's a forum dedicated to this and your question should be asked over there.   https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/subscription-changes/bd-p/6073  I will have the moderator relocate your posting there.

To answer...

1.  In single user subscription there's a reporting tool for your usages.   See this https://synergiscadblog.com/2019/08/02/autodesk-account-reporting-seat-usages/    <-- Assuming that's what you're asking

2.  No..  Its based on your next renewal.   But with it being past May 7 2021 you will have to trade in and will not be offered multi-user going forward.   But you can trade in at any time..

2.

Contact your reseller in about a week or two after they have digested it all, the burden seems to have fallen back on them to help sort out all of our specific needs.

Wow, these guys must be licking their chops:

Let me explain, you turn in one network seat for two per-users. Then pay us same sub fee each year for the two seats we gave you.

Translation:

We are offering you the opportunity to double your subscription fees to cover the same number of acad users.

All because we are "More than a Serial Number", and don't forget to "Discover What's Possible".

I could start a new career as a comedian from the marketing. You can't make this stuff up.

Did they seriously write:

"When you choose Autodesk, you get a partner to realize your ideas."

What if I am already married, or very solitary? Does this change how I file taxes now?

Does the partner have dependents?

A long time ago in a forum far, far away...

You're right, that's the place.

I thought about that little detail of trading in now or losing the 2 for 1 "deal".

That catches the 3 year sub people I bet.

I have to admit, I never thought about the extra sub fees for the extra seats you need for per-user licenses.

This is like Avis telling us "the large car is not available, so you can just rent two smaller ones instead".

This is going to be fun. I think we all will "Discover What's Possible". Yes, you included Autodesk.

@Anonymous It is **** confusing for sure: and the condescending explanations are quite insulting to say the least.

Our reseller was on it as soon as it was announced and asked me to give them a week to figure it all out: like you, we also just purchased 3-year renewals less that a month ago. We feel cheated.

That board is gone. New one is:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/subscription-changes/bd-p/6073

Its got a whole 10 posts. Like I said "far far away..."

I'm sure the latest news will break records like the post on maintenance vs sub did when that happened.

Interesting point. We bought 3 year to lock in the price, then they discontinue the product and offer the alternative product (2 for 1 deal) "only available" within that contract period.

I have to say, that was good thinking on their end. I keep saying they need to get down to their real, full price, customer base, to be honest with their stock holders. I think they found a way to do that. Get ready stock owners, I don't think they will like the market adjustment as I have to think hoards of companies will either offer acad Lt or bricscad to the non-core people.

Hey @JamesMaeding - Thanks for the question. Thank you to @Mark.Lancaster  for the helpful linking and @pendean for relevant discussion.

I can't understand your exact situation, if you want to sort that directly with Autodesk, use the link for your region on this page. Overall, I think I have two Q/As that can help get your answer:

If your question is: "I have a multi-user agreement that ends in ~2022, what will my trade in price be at that time?"

My answer:  The pricing will be at the price of your MU renewal. Note the trade-in offer pricing remains the same, regardless of the year. It’s based on if you take the Trade-in at your FIRST renewal after May 7, 2020 (2:1 pricing) or SECOND renewal (1:1 pricing).

If your question is: "Will I only be allowed to trade my Multi-user licenses to Single-user at the time of my renewal? I JUST purchased my M2S Migration for 3 years, so will I have the option of trading those in during that contract or do I have to wait until 2023?

My answer: Yes, renewal only.  Yes - you will have to wait until that newly signed 3-year contract comes up for renewal in 2023 to do the trade-in.  You will still receive a 2:1 offer.

I hope this helps get you some clarity on the core question you asked. Let me know if I can help further.

Thank you for that breakdown.  It actually helps me with our situation here.  I understand it a little better, and I kind of know what to expect when I talk to me reseller.

Thanks. Your answer about if the 2:1 deal is only offer the first year, vs 1st renewal is important.

I bet a lot of people wished they did a three year deal now to keep flexlm as long as possible.

Its stuff like that which makes purchasing acad like throwing dice.

Something must have snapped in Autodesk. They have been hugely raising prices and limiting what is sold as a network seat for a while, but must have decided it was time to go all in. The marketing guys are like "but we just raised prices 20% again on network seats a week ago, I thought those were big money makers."

CAD Managers will pay a lot to avoid extra admin, and network seats made that easy.

Now, even if we rent one seat per user, we have to admin the rights.

What I see happening is people simply sharing adesk logins to share autocad. Its illegal, but once people figure that out, how could an admin like me detect it or stop it? Heck, you could even have people renting out their logins when not needed. Its going to be a whole new set of issues, while running flexlm was very easy and secure as sharing a company login is a fireable offense, while sharing some adesk login info is meaningless to the IT dept.

@JamesMaeding  & @cbenner  - I'm glad I could provide some clarity. I think this post will end up being helpful for other users down the line that are in this same situation.

@JamesMaeding  - Do you think the content I shared warrants an Accepted Solution? No worries if not, but if it did, I would love for you to mark it as such to make the info more findable in the future.

That is the first time I've heard that ANYWHERE. It's always been phrased "at a price similar to" or "Comparable to".

I've also heard that Autodesk is supposed to honor the pricing structure from the Move to Subscription promotion.
