How does this effect existing installations of AutoCAD 2019?

We currently have approx. 125 users sharing a pool of multi-user subscription licenses. Majority have 2019 AutoCAD, some are on 2016 but moving to 2019 by the end of April, and some are using various bits of the AEC Collection. Should we take up the 2-1 switch offer with our June renewal - which it looks like we really dont have much choice - once the named users are set up, will all our existing installations continue to work and there is no uninstall/re-install required, or action by the users if we can utilise the SSO or AD Group Synch that I've just been reading about? The way our IT operate, any upgrades or changes in the actual installations take significant time and effort to sort, and we really need to know as much as possible now, alongside advice our reseller hopes to provide soon.

Hello @liz_west !

Thank you for your question, it is reasonable to be prepared for changes and we are here to help you.

Correct me if I am wrong, but your question is "Should we update our 125 licenses in June on our first renewal?"

The answer is yes.

The FAQ saying: "For customers who own a subscription with multi-user access or maintenance, at your first renewal after May 7, 2020, we’ll help you transition to a plan for named users through trade-in offers that keep your costs consistent today and predictable to 2028*"

We are working on a tool which help our customers to make a transition easier. Just wait for more information here in this thread or in this topic, where we started a discussion about Generic user

You second question was "Should we reinstall AutoCAD right away after license update?"

My answer would be no, but it depends on your existing license file on multi-user plan. Your software or CAD manager will see the date when licenses are expiring. Until then you can use your existing license server to connect you AutoCAD with.

Usually it takes 1 month after license is expire, so during this month you need to be sure that all users in your company completed the transition to named user. At day X all users will be notified that AutoCAD should be connected with the licenses trough the login window. All users need to be connected to the internet to activate their license.

Also, you don't need to change software version until your corporate standards would say so. On a named user based subscription you will still have access to actual version of AutoCAD +3 versions back.

I hope I answered your question and all these make sense to you. Let me know if you need more information.

A couple of things to add..

No there's need to reinstall the software..   Each user can go into Help/About/Manage license and select to change license.  They exit the software and the Let's Get Started dialog appears.  They select the sign in and sign in with the Autodesk ID to activate the product (as long as they have user accounts established and the use of the product is assigned to them).  In addition you have 30 days to make this switch for all users (account creation, product assignment, license reset) once you trade in.

This statement "if we can utilize the SSO or AD Group Synch" is only if you level up for the premium level which is 300 dollars extra per seat.  So if you have 125 seats and you trade in, you now get a 2:1 ratio, so you have 250 seats, the premium level is $300 x 250 seats...   Just wanted to make you aware of that..

Sorry I need to make a clarification..

"No there's need to reinstall the software.."  Should've read "No, there's no need to reinstall the software".   My original statement made it sound like you needed to reinstall the software and that's not the case...

Thanks Lena and Mark - so no re-installs, which is good, but a significant amount to pay for the Premium version - at least we can plan ahead and start internal discussions now that we have more details.
