Creating and Administering many named user accounts

With the new changes to subscription going to the named user model, does Autodesk have any plans to help the creation of all those new user accounts that need to be made? Many of the users don't have an Autodesk account. Those that do, don't really know it as it was setup for them, or they have never used it since creating it.

I've had to make several accounts in the past few months, and I don't want to have to do that for 100 people. I also don't want to rely on 100 people to make their accounts. I want to make it a seamless transition that doesn't involve them, and something to generate a series of accounts from the administrators page would be preferable.

The only thing that is there is you can import users from a file (well copy and paste)..

But the user still needs to create their own Autodesk Account.   In the user management you are only linking their Autodesk Account to your subscription/product/contracts.

And that's the rub. Now I have to explain to 100ish people to go make an account they've never needed before, then go through and link them...if and when they're created.

It's much easier when I have new hires, as I can add it as an onboarding item, but for users that barely use or the software, it's just a huge headache I'm not looking forward to.

@AdammReilly - if your organization chooses to go with the Premium offering, then SSO will be available to you, meaning your user's Autodesk account is tied in with your domain accounts.

We have this with Bentley and did not have to have hundreds of users making a Bentley account. One would think Autodesk's offering would be similar.

Adding to @rkmcswain reply about the premium level (just in case it was missed in the info @rkmcswain  shared).,

To level up to the premium level, its a $300 dollars per license up-charge and this level is not available until June 2020.

Hi @AdammReilly

Autodesk will be launching several changes in User Management that will quicken the process of creating named users. We will be releasing a bulk import capability that will let you import larger numbers of users from a csv file - this will be helpful when you do the initial transition. Down the line we will also introduce AD Group sync - if you set this up your users will be automatically added/assigned/removed based on your configuration. We'll also be simplifying the current user invite workflow so that it is easier to use for people who need to continue adding small numbers of users manually.

If you choose to turn on SSO authentication, then your users will not have to accept any invites or create their account - it will be automatically created for them with no work on the end user side. If you pair this with AD Group Sync there will be very little overhead for you or your end users after the initial set up. If you do not choose to turn on SSO authentication, your users will still have to verify their account and set up a password to log in.

I hope that helps!

@Emily.M.Svensson  - which ones of the things you mentioned are only available if the customer pays the extra $300 per license?

  • Bulk import
  • AD Group Sync
  • SSO Authentication

Thanks.

Ok, just don't get too inspired by Bentley.

Their last round of "install and register our Communicator app or risk losing your licenses" was about as effective and successful as the current Democratic efforts to find a viable pres candidate.

Learn from their mistakes if you can talk to a few that went through it.

I am very interested in an answer to this!  Is AD Group Sync and SSO going to cost an extra $300 per seat???  Really...

Is SSO and AD Sync going to only be in the premium version? I would hope not, that is something that is basic.

Yes those options are only in the Premium level

@francis.s.m

Bulk import is already possible now..  So its going to be part of the standard level.   However I've heard that its going to be easier to bulk add (compared to now).

Hello all,

Single Sign On and Active Directory Group Sync will be available for Premium and Enterprise tiers. More information about the features in each tier will be available soon. Bulk Import via csv will be available for everyone.

Thank you,

Emily

@Emily.M.Svensson

So Autodesk found one more way to fleece us. You yourself must be in disbelief they only give out those tools to "Enterprise" customers. Like telling patients in the dentist waiting room "only those of you with PPO insurance will get novocain". Will Autodesk next charge extra for lisp compatibility? PEDIT command? LINE?

Shoot, now I am giving them ideas.

So, basic features that should be included in any scheme like this are going to come at an even higher premium and why? Just so Autodesk can milk even more money out of us in the guise of more insight into software use (insight that I can already get with our network licenses).

It will become available only when your licenses are upgraded to premium licenses and this requires a minimum of 50 license and additional fees of something like $200 for each license.

@Emily.M.Svensson - can you point us to this information? The message above was 15 months ago. Thanks.
