Can I reduce the cost of a subscription license? Is an older version possible?

Can I reduce the cost of a subscription license? Is an older version possible?

Last year I after paying monthly for two months, I bought a single one-year subscription license during a sale promo for $1200. Now at the renewal time that cost will be $1600, which would really hurt my small business and I'm positive the second I buy another promo will start.

I don't need the most up to date ACAD 2020 or all the bells and whistles. I could live with an older (not student) version, even back to 2014, but I can not figure out how to do this.

The cost of this software is becoming prohibitive

AutocAD costs are what they are: there is no back-door "cheaper older" option. Perhaps you are ready to move to the lower cost AutoCADLT or go off the reservation to another CAD package from another software vendor.

you don't get to pick & choose what version you buy Autodesk offers what they offer if you don't like it is time to move away from Autodesk

Unfortunately, that's like walking into your Lexus dealer and saying you really don't want to spend $50k on a new car, and asking if they have a $25k model. The answer is no. You'll have to go down the street to the Hyundai dealership and see what they have that meets your needs.

Wow- how rude. You must think yourself very funny to post up a snappy and belittling metaphor.

I now wish on you all the trials of a small business owner trying to figure out how to stay afloat in the creative industries.

When your response popped up in my email (an entire year after the original posting) it noted you as "mentor". Mentor for what and designated by whom? If you are a representative of @Anonymous they should be ashamed that you would be so dismissive to a customer with an honest request.

And for your information- I did take this up with Autodesk and there were plenty of options and your kind introduction to a down market "Hyundai" version needn't be one of them.

@Anonymous - I'm simply trying to help you (and the many others who read, but not comment in these forums) how business is done here with Autodesk. You can take it or leave it, and it's not just Autodesk. Like virtually all other for-profit businesses in the world, there isn't a special deal for individuals or businesses that don't want to pay the full amount. I'm not going to mention the alternative applications you should be considering if the cost for AutoCAD is too much, because this IS Autodesk's forums after all. Good luck.
