H10 Loading on pedestrian bridge

Hi,

I am trying to design a pedestrian bridge on which I have "H10" AASHTO loading. I tried to create H10 vehicle in Permit vehicles but when I analyse for live loading, I have to include at least 1 Standard vehicle which I don't want. Is there a way to analyse live loading envelop without a standard vehicle or any other way to design loading on the pedestrian bridge.

Hi,

 

I'm not really an expert on AASHTO loading so I'm not sure how helpful I can be.  If I remember correctly the "H" type loading (H10, H15, H20 etc...) was the loading in the previous code to LRFD (ie 17th edition AASHTO)  I assume that the H10 (which I thought had been removed from the code) that you are trying to apply to a pedestrian bridge is Accidental/ maintenance loading in the LRFD code but as I don't have a copy of this document it is just an assumption as I can't check it out.

 

I think that the load optimisation using the AASHTO LRFD 7 code doe not have this "H" loading but, as you say, a non standard vehicle can be applied as a user defined permit vehicle - but this will always be applied in accordance with the general rules which will combine it with other vehicles.

 

If the code of practice is changed to "AASHTO 17th edition" then there is more scope to apply a single H10 vehicle.  However, any results produced and subsequent design within the software would relate to the older code of practice.

It would be useful, for the developers of the software, to know if this is a common application and what the basic loading criteria is so that these situations may be added to the development wish list.
