Changing Support Conditions between Construction Stages

Hello,

I have an ASBD model set up with various construction stages. I am applying spring stiffness to a set of piles at each stage.

When I vary the spring stiffness's at a construction stage, the supports at all other construction stages revert to fixed supports.

Has anyone else experienced this, or are there any workarounds for this issue?

Thanks

Hi,

This is quite a difficult question to answer as the sequence of entering data is important. I must admit that stage construction data in ASBD is probably the most difficult to navigate.  If you generate the model in the first instance  with fixed supports and then create a number of construction stages then they will all have fixed supports until they are explicitly changed for each stage.  However, if you originally create the model with no supports before creating the construction stages then you can add the support conditions at each stage then.

I do agree that this is not an easy process but with care the conditions at each stage can be defined and the analysis will work fine.

If I have not understood you question fully I apologise, and if so please zip up your data file and attach it to a reply so that I can create a better answer.

Kind regards

@dave_geeves,

Thanks getting in touch.

I don't think you're quite addressing the question I'm attempting to articulate.

I've set up multiple construction stages with spring supports. The workflow I'm describing is thus:

1. Input set of springs for construction stage 1

2. Input set of springs for construction stage 2

3. Error occurs, set of springs inputted at Point 1 have reverted back to fixed supports.

I.e. every time I input a new set of springs it drops an previously inputted set.

Hopefully this is clearer. I've attached the model so you can have a look yourself.

Thanks

Hi David,

Thanks for attaching your data file.  I have not been able to replicate your problem as can be seen in this video.

(view in My Videos)

I only have access to my laptop at the moment so I have only tested using version 2024 rather than 2023 that you are using so maybe this is the difference.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

@dave_geeves

When I use your method it works.

I was closing the dialogue box before changing construction stage.

Thanks for your help!
