I use Stingray with 3DS max 2012. I export my models as .fbx and import them. I might not have the same interoperability as the latest version of 3ds max or Maya but it still seems very easy to edit and normally it automatically update the object in the scene.

Yes sure.  Stingray will take an FBX file from any application that supports the autodesk standards for FBX.  Test away!
