Hello all. I would like to use this thread to gather up some feature requests for the engine/editor over the holidays. Please feel free to post with any requests you'd like to see in the engine in the new year and any ideas you may have to make the editor better!

Thanks and look foward to your ideas!

PS -- not for tutorial requests 🙂 that's a different thread

Dan

HTTP request supported across all platforms. Something like LuaSocket.

This will allow the use of all sorts of thirdparty API's and tools. Things that are necessary for many of todays games developers.

I know that in the future I should be able to do this as a Plugin (when the Plugin API interface is released in a new version), but I would have to do this across all supported platforms which would be a pain!

I would like to be able to dynamically create primatives from within Lua code.

This would allow the creation of a Minecraft style environment.

For another game i'm thinking about, I need at least 26 box primatives, each with a different texture (showing a letter of the alphablet). If I could create these dynamically in code, along with applying the associated texture, then I could also create different language versions easily.

I know you have Scaleform, but I would like to see an alternative to this for 2D games. Something in Lua that does not rely on Scaleform.

I have used Love2D in the past and it's very good. Just implementing in Stingray the equivalent of love.graphics part of their API would be enough!

Hi Dan

I'd like to be able to search for nodes in flow in unit editor by pressing the tab key like you can in the level flow.

Also it would be nice if the feature that lets you choose from a list on contents Types in flow nodes worked on all the flow nodes.

Have a good Xmas and tahnsk for all your help.

I would Love the ability to set a splash screen and intro movie to the game when it starts up. Also the ability to Publish to Linux and Mac would be nice 🙂

We have our Story stool which similar to what you get with Matinee in Unreal. http://help.autodesk.com/view/Stingray/ENU/?guid=__stingray_help_cinematics_story_editor_html

We are currently looking into a solution for video playback in Stingray. Will keep you posted as that updates.

Hi Dan,

A SQL library (SQLite/mysql/postgres/SQL Server) would be amazingly helpful. Unless you already have that and I just haven't found them yet...which is totally possible.

Hi Dave,

I think you may be able to get this working through FFI, just like I did for LuaSocket.

Looking at https://luapower.com there are several options for Database interfaces:

mysql

Hello,

- I would like to request Spline components be added to the core of Stingray via flow nodes, as it would greatly help in allowing objects/characters to follow paths.

- I would also like to request that Autodesk focus more on Flow itself. A lot of people left Unity to go to Unreal, a big reason to that is their Blueprint System, which they focus on heavily. Stingray has Flow, but most answers I see posted here, usually involve Lua and code, not really that much using the Flow node system. I think this would greatly increase the userbase of Stingray, as well, and allow more graphics people and others to grasp the fundamentals of Stingray easier.

- Compounds (or expansion of). Coming from using Softimage ICE, having certain operations be made into pre-made compounds would be great. If people want greater control within that compound, they can open it up and see/use those inner nodes, if needed. Example, a compound for a camera following a character...position your camera in the scene, and then have inputs for your target and tolerance (camera lag), and that is about it. If someone needs more control, then they can go into that compound and adjust nodes/settings within.

Just some ideeas. Thank You.

Hi

I'd like to be able to turn off groups of flow nodes so they are no longer used but then be able to turn them on again later.

Also the ability to export and entire level or just some elements of the level to Maya & 3DSmax would be useful to me.

It sure would be nice if we could just open Revit files directly, including all of the materials and textures.  Autodesk to Autodesk . . .

Navisworks can do it now.  Why not?

@Anonymous It's not quite that simple 🙂 However, Project Expo does just that! Expo to cloud to Stingray. You can sign up for the beta at any time and test it out. Works very well.
