Interacting with objects in VR

Has anyone achieved the effect of picking up and throwing a custom asset inside of Stingray?

I'm having difficulties figuring out how to get my models inside and reacting to physics with VR controller input. Baby steps at first, but what I'm trying to create is essentially a small room with a number of objects to play around with. Bouncy balls bounce, balloons will float up if you knock them down, drawers open and close, blinds in the window will flutter with the wind or your touch, rocks fall faster than feathers, etc.

Does anyone have any idea how to go about doing this inside of Stingray?

I'm not a high-level script writer, but I can read it just fine and fully understand what these functions are doing and how they're affecting the game (I happen to fall a tad bit over into the artsy side of 3D, rather than the mechanical and programming side). So, in a perfect world, I would like to accomplish as much of this functionality as possible level flow/unit flow since it just makes more sense to me.

Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Paul's tutorial here is a great start. I was able to use the workflow to get my own custom asset 'pickupable' so to speak. I'm yet to delve further and start adding restrictions though (i.e a drawer opening can only move along a certain path).

Have a look at the VR museum in the online projects tab as well, there are some great examples of interactive objects in that.

Oh yeah, I remember watching that video awhile ago before I had access to a Vive. I did attempt to muddle with the VR museum project, but couldn't get things to work on my own. It might be because I was working with Revit models and there could've been some internal scaling issue or something.

I'll mark this as a solution for now and attempt working with these instructions, but I would love to figure out how to fine tune some of these physics-based assets. Anyone reading this who knows a thing or two, please respond!

Edit: Holy cow they upgraded the VR museum project. There's a lot of great learning assets in there!!

Did you know there was a YouTube learning channel for Autodesk Games? New videos are posted regularly with all sorts of content relative to Stingray, Maya/MayaLT, 3DS Max, and other game related tools. Get your game on @ https://www.youtube.com/user/autodeskgameshowtos

Hi @paul.kind I've started to use 3ds Max Interactive (Stingray) recently.. yes I know everyone has already quitted it, including autodesk. But I just need to add VR functionality and color swatches thing in my existing interior design projects in from 3ds Max, and it serves the purpose.

If you still have a copy of the VR Museum Template, can you please share? As it is not available anywhere now. Or if @Anonymous and @Anonymous you could help
