PSD layer naming on import

With the new Smoke 2017, I am having problems when importing layers from a PSD file. On the older version, the layer would come in with its layer name, but now the layer comes in with the PSD file name and I have to "add" all the layers to my folder as they all have the same name now.
How do I go back to the old setting to preserve each individual layer name within the PSD file?

Hi SugarfreeZA,

You should still be able to import the layers of the PSD with the Layer names.

Select the PSD in the browser.  In the menus, switch to the Format Specific Tab.  Your selected clip should show the Photoshop settings.   If not, enable SHOW ALL FORMATS and choose Photoshop.   Switch menu from METADATA to CLIP OPTIONS.  Here you can set the Clip Names to LAYER instead of FILENAME.

The next time you drag the file into the Media Panel, it should adapt the layer names.

Thanks Grant

I have checked those options and all it seems to effect are the clip names displayed in the browser window. When I drag a clip to my library, it doesn't keep the name from the browser window and only keeps the actual PSD filename. My default is set to "Filename + Layer" and it displays exactly what I want it to be on import but this does not happen.

Hi SugarFreeZA,

If you expand the PSD and drag one of the layers to the media panel, the new clip takes on the file name of the PSD and not the layer name.   I will log this with the team.

However, if you drag the actual PSD clip with the Multi tag, it will import all the layers and they should have the correct naming as set out in your menus.

Hope this helps.

Grant

Hi Grant

Yes, thats correct. If I drag the PSD file then it will bring in all layers with their respective names.

It's only when importing specific selected layers that the problem occurs.

I will use the method of bringing in the PSD file and then deleting all the unnecessary layers from my library until this is resolved.

Thanks again!

Bradley
