"Dumb" styluses, as they are sometimes called, don't relay pressure information to the iPad, so they are not much more useful that drawing with the fingers. No pressure means no variable thickness and opacity for the brushes.
Apple iPad Pros and Pencil is the best combination for drawing on iOS.. You need it powered (battery) in the stylus so that there is pressure.

Other stylus' not listed above are capacitive and only reads the touch. It will not have pressure.

We have tested only the Pencil with the iPad Pros. It should work with the other devices (because it's the same app) but we have not tested it fully.
