Coloring imported pictures

I want to color imported images but the backgrouns is never transparent. I have tried tracing the image (time consuming) and using the Myltiply layer blending (blurry/faint lines). Looking for better ideas so I dont spend just as much time editing my imported outline as I do coloring.

The only file format with SketchBook that has a 'alpha' channel is the .png format.

a.  On the background layer, toggle it on/off.  If it's active (off), the background will be a checker board.

b.  Paint out the object so you see the 'checker board'.

c. Save as .png.

d. Import into "Powerpoint" and the image will be 'square' but the file will have an alpha channel cut out.

I hope that helps...
