Filling hollow Part1 with a new Part2 ?

Hi,

Im working with Autodesk Simulation Multyphysics 2013. I want to rum a thermal simulation through different Materials. My problem is, i have an almost complete Model but it is a partly hollow Body and completely watertight to the outside. Now i want to fill this Body with an extra Part which is bounded by the others and fills it completely. Then i want to add a new material definition to it and simulate it. Is this possible somehow?

Thank you.

That should be relatively easy to do.

  1. If the model came from CAD, you can either create the new part in the original CAD model, or if you do not have the original CAD model, you can create the new part using Sim Mechanical's "Tools > Edit > CAD with Fusion" (for your version 2013 of Sim Mech, or "Tools > Edit > SimStudio Tools" for newer versions of Sim Mech). Make the new part and transfer the model back to Sim Mech.
  2. You can create part 2 manually as follows:
  • Select the lines on the hollow of part 1.
  • Right-click > "Duplicate" and set the part number to part 2. This creates the "outside" of part 2.
  • Define part 2 to be brick elements.
  • Right-click part 2 in the browser > "Create Solid Mesh". (right-click > CAD Mesh Options > Create Solid Mesh" in newer versions of Sim Mech.)

Hi John,

thanks a lot for the quick response John. Didn't have the opportunity to try it jet but sounds reasonable.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
