Hi Autodesk Family, my name is Fernando Zúñiga.

I like to ask you something, i have a few problems with a design proyect that i have to do about a steel structure.

I made a 3d wireframe IGES file, in Solidworks 2013 software.

When the IGES file is done, i import it, to Autodesk Simulation Multiphysics 2013, for make the analysis FEA.

But Autodesk Simulation Multiphysics 2013, do not open the IGES file.

I don´t know what else i have to do, this is the reason for request your help, i really apreciate your colaboration and time to me,  and i will be gratefull with you,

I will be wating for your answer.

I attached PDF file with the steps that i been following, and besides the 3D wireframe IGES file SW.

THANKS A LOT...

Hello Fernando....

So this is what I can tell you just from experience... I do not know the actual reason but here is what I know:

The same thing happens when you try to import a sketch from inventor.... ASM does not load the lines and just opens a "blank" file. The way I do this transition is by first exporting the geometry as a 3D-DWG. Someone once told me (the same guy that taught me this workaround) that the reason for this is that ASM is "expecting" a solid or a surface model from this extensions/software. I do not know if solidworks can export this model to a 3d-DWG. I actually recommend you to work a little bit with your file in autocad and create some layers to facilitate your work in ASM (especially with large models). The other thing you have to look is the options for importing a DWG file. You should deactivate the option to transform to YZ plane. I've attached an image with the configuration I used to upload your file.

Hope this helps.

Bye

Hi Fernando,

If you are going to be bringing in a wireframe from Solidworks, I don't recommend using the Simulation Mechanical CAD plugin for Solidworks but rather import the file directly with Sim Mech. When opening a file with Simulation Mechanical, be sure to select the type fo file as this will give you different options. By default it is going to assume the IGES file is solids and surfaces, but if you select the IGES Wireframe Files option you should be able to successfully bring in a wireframe to Simulation Mechanical.

Hi, andrew,  i really thank you for your answer and colaboration, i been following  your recomendations but without success.

The thing is, when i try to open the IGES file, in Autodesk Simulation Multiphysics 2013 do not open the file.

but I been trying the Sebastian´s tips that gave me, and It works. I just to do a wireframe in autocad as DWG extension and it work.

So this is the first part, the next steps that I going to do, the static stress, modal and response spectrum analysis.
the last time i remember i had some problems with the response spectrum analysis...I will see what happen...

thanks a lot my friend, i really appreciate your cooperation...
