I can't seem to find the option to disable auto start of the program. Short of modifying the registry how can this be accomplished?

Hi @Anonymous

Thank you for such detailed steps. We will definitely try those out here with QA. BTW, can you try one thing:

- Uninstall and reinstall Screencast Recorder

The fact that, Screencast doesn't start with AutoCAD starts immediately after a reboot, indicates to me that, AutoCAD 2020 was installed after the Screencast Recorder was installed. If you can uninstall and reinstall, I believe the problem you are seeing will be fixed. Can you please try that and let me know, how it goes.

Thanks,

--Ram

Things like this are why I have cartoon hate for Autodesk. This thread was started in 2014 and a response from THE EFFIN GM for Screencast, an Autodesk employee says..

Re: Where is the option to disable auto start?

We (currently) do not have an option to disable at startup - I've passed this request along to our developers and have asked that it be put on our roadmap.

Thanks - Eric

All these years later and still nothing. I would love to drop giant anvils all over Autodesk Corporate.

Yes, this issue - broken critical functionality given lip service for years in the forum - while new features I'll never use (I'm talking to you generative design) are breathlessly updated was the reason I went back to Solidworks.

I've lost all hope that AutoDesk will ever get its priorities straight and fix the core issues (e.g. broken sketch engine, horrid X-ref workflow and nonexistent drawing package) so I only keep my Fusion seat to access legacy files.

Well, that was short lived.

It hung up trying to load screencast this morning.  I had IV open and tried to start AutoCAD.  Total lock up.

I like using the product but cannot abide it preventing me from starting AutoCAD.  Can I prevent it from starting when I start programs and only start when I want to use it?

Bump.

Screencast automatically launches in the background when I launch AutoCAD Plant 3D as well.  I can close screencast but keep AutoCAD open, re-open screencast, record a video, and quit screencast without any problems.  Let me clarify something -- would letting AutoCAD launch without also launching screencast make screencast unable to function if it were opened later?

Also, can we please not trash on the AutoCAD development team so much?

Yeah, this is where I am now, too. When I need to report a bug or snag a screen cast to ask for help in the forums, I install Screencast, then uninstall when I'm done. So annoying. How hard could it be to surface a checkbox in the UI to allow the user to choose to launch or not launch Screencast when the main app starts? Apparently... extremely hard.

Yeah, sad, this thread started just about 7 years ago (9-9-14)  It is exactly this sort of inability of AutoDesk to either fix an issue or answer why they won't fix it that drove me back into the arms of Solidworks several years ago.  I've kept my Fusion subscription for access to old files - and - on the hope that at some point they figure out how to fix some of these multi-year long complaints in the forums, but, not holding my breath on that . . .
