Where is the option to disable auto start?

I can't seem to find the option to disable auto start of the program. Short of modifying the registry how can this be accomplished?

you can go through msconfig.exe in windows and disable the autostart

We (currently) do not have an option to disable at startup - I've passed this request along to our developers and have asked that it be put on our roadmap.

Yes, I know of that method which also requires admin rights (same as modifying the registry). I can't believe this option was left out of the software.

Any update as to whether this is being addressed?

It's very annoying... I often have to switch between different releases of Inventor, and can't do so until I close Screencast... which opens on its own everytime I open Inventor.

I don't think I've ever seen software (aside from ad-bots) exhibit this behaviour.

We have addressed this issue with the Screencast Recorder version 2.0. What is the version of the Screencast Recorder you are using? Please upgrade to the latest version from https://screencast.autodesk.com.

I'm using 2.0.1.  Clearly it has not been addressed properly.

Can you please do this:

Go to your registry in this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Please delete the key "Chronicle" or "Screencast" from there.

But the new installer, doesn't install this key anymore, which was doing the auto-startup. It is possible when you installed the newer version, this key wasn't removed.

Deleting the above key should fix your auto-startup.

When having this issue we were running 2014 Autodesk products. During the upgrade to 2015, screencast was never installed so the issue went away. If you don't use screencast, just uninstall it.

Neither of those keys exist in that registry location.  The issue is not auto-start on loading Windows, it's auto-start when loading Inventor.

Problem is I do use Screencast for posting glitches, etc.

Okay, I thought you meant Screencast Recorder starting on your computer startup (boot up).

When Inventor starts, we do initialize the Recorder and establish the IPC. So it starts on Inventor startup and is ready to record. Currently we don't have any setting to turn this off.

Fair enough... so then why does it not shut down on Inventor shut down??

Currently this is as designed. There might be other clients connected to the Screencast Recorder and we keep it running. Anywyays, this issue has been brought up before of starting the Recorder on application startup. We will look into it this to make the user experience better.

I'm a user of Fusion 360 on OS X and I would like to also chime in and say that I don't like Screencast auto starting when launching F360.

I keep coming back to F360 every few months to see if it has matured to the point of being useful - still not IMO - but some of the the little irritations like this where AutoDesk makes a decsision for me (autolaunch) and gives me no way to "fix" it that are as bad as the major flaws in F360.

I absolutely hate the fact that Screencast autolaunches; it takes up valuble menu real estate, on a laptop that is a big deal.

If there is no way to disable autostart I'd like to remove Screencast, but can't figure out how.  I googled, I looked in the forums, but nothing relevant an useful.

How does one cleanly remove Screencast on OS X?
