Wind gust in 3D model

Hi there,

 

I am trying to model wind gusts in RSA but my model is a 3D one so the option is not available, any idea on how to model that as recurrent forces without having to do a CFD simulation?

 

Let me know if I am not clear enough

In Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis, if you have a 3D model and want to model wind gusts as recurrent forces without performing a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation, you can use the "Wind Load" feature. The "Wind Load" option allows you to apply wind loads to the structure based on various design codes and standards. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Define Wind Load Cases:

    • Go to the "Data" tab and select "Load Cases" from the left panel.
    • Create new load cases for wind loads. You can define multiple load cases for different wind directions and load combinations.
  2. Define Wind Load Parameters:

    • Go to the "Data" tab and select "Wind" from the left panel.
    • Define the wind parameters such as wind speed, direction, terrain category, and building height. These parameters are typically based on local building codes and standards.
  3. Apply Wind Load:

    • In the "Data" tab, select "Load Cases" again and open the wind load cases you created.
    • In the load case editor, click on "Add" to add a new load, and then select "Wind" as the load type.
    • Specify the wind load parameters, including the wind direction, and apply the load to appropriate structural members.
  4. Assign Wind Load to Members:

    • Go to the "Model" tab and select "Assign" from the left panel.
    • Assign the wind load to the relevant structural members, such as beams, columns, and walls. You can apply the wind load to the members in the appropriate direction.
  5. Analyze the Model:

    • After assigning the wind load, run the analysis to calculate the structural response under wind loading conditions.
  6. Review Results:

    • Review the analysis results, including member forces, deflections, and stresses, to ensure that the structure can withstand the applied wind loads.

By using the "Wind Load" feature in Robot Structural Analysis, you can approximate the effect of wind gusts on your 3D model without performing a detailed CFD simulation. Keep in mind that this method is a simplified approach, and the results are based on the assumptions made by the wind load parameters and design codes used.

Hi, thank you for your response. So if I understand correctly, the wind load feature on the software is not simulating a steady wind load and can be accurate for gusts? In that case, the discussion is resolved.
