What governs the side on which bar bending moment diagram is displayed?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to know what coordinate system the results diagrams use. I was looking at some bending moment values of some beams and the direction I expect to obtain the -Z axis moments are on the 'My moment' option of the NTM results diagrams. Even my local beam axes have their Z axis in the vertical and the X and Y in the 2D horizontal plane. Any elucidation would be greatly appreciated.

On an unrelated note, should I define supports for the edges of my slab or does robot auto-detect that 'x' is continuous and 'y' is discontinuous (for example) in a basic structure I'm designing?

Thank you.

Hi @Anonymous

The results for bars are always in their local coordinate system. Could you attach the model and screen capture which illustrates the situation you described as I'm not sure if I understand it correctly.

There are no automatic generation of boundary conditions for slabs.

I feel I'm missing something very basic Artur. Shouldn't the bending moments in the picture I sent be in the -Z direction i.e. Z axis?

Hi @Anonymous

I'm sorry but still I'm not sure if get it right. If you ask why the My diagram is drawn like this then it is always displayed on the fibers in tension side of a bar element.

Yes, That's what I was asking. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Regarding the slab, should I define linear supports on all the slabs on each floor or could I just export once it's defined? I made sure it is composed of small elements rather than once large slab each level.

Hi @Anonymous

Again I'm not 100% sure what you meant be export but assuming that you are asking if when you define a linear releases on a panel and you copy this panel (e.g. to another level) they will be defined for the newly created panel as well then the answer is yes.
