I am currently involved in a project that involves the assessment of an existing structure. The structure is rectangular in plan with four columns. It has multiple stories. The columns are 150x12 EA and have had tapered steel plates welded to both ends of the angle. See the markup below.
My question is whether it is possible to model the angle and plates as separate members? (i.e. make the plate a bracket or stiffener type member). Or will I have to create the member in the section definition project type? Guidance on either of these ideas (or any other option) would be appreciated.
