Dear all,
I'm working on a research of taper steel design approaches comparing efficiency of various structural analysis packages.
I've modelled sample tapered rafter in Space GASS (using automatic generator of prismatic members), Robot and Strand 7. Robot and Strand 7 came with nearly 100% match on NTM , deflections results. I had a bit of a look at help file at Strand 7 and can see all the theoretical background about splitting the beam into specified number of integration points.
My question is - does Robot have an explanation on how exactly the stresses are calculated in the software, which method is in use? And how does the steel member design exactly calculate the capacity of the member?
Unfortunately, I couldn't find theoretical background in Robot helpfile on this problem and can't prove that this software is the best to model taper steel than Space GASS to my manager.
I've attached an example of Strand7 help file with full details of implementation of the method to the end user.
Or this link could be used instead - https://www.strand7.com/strand7r3help/Content/Topics/ResultsInterpretation/ResultsInterpretationBeam...
So it would be nice to have something similar from Robot knowledge base.
Thank you for your help in advance.
