Hi all.

We re trying to import an IFC file into Robot 2015. The progress bar finish but no element is imported to Robot. The files can be imported in Navisworks.

I attach the ifc file and a screenshot of the file imported in Navisworks.

thank you.

Best Regards.

Alejandro.

There is bit of a difference between Navisworks which is design to open "any" file format and Robot which needs a specific information. IFC is not the preferred data exchange format for Robot but I opened your model in Revit to check what information it contains. As you can see it is only generic shape of a section whereas Robot needs structural data.

The IFC file comes from AVEVA Bocad Steel, we use this software for structure design and for doing workshop detailed engineering. The IFC comes with structural data as is generated by BOCAD:

For example, line 198 you can read"IPE300" this is structural data, in line 6030 "HEA300" it is also structural data:

#695= IFCBUILDINGELEMENTPROXY('18384/187241',#1,'TR','IPE300',$,#688,#691,'1:100014:1455044958-100025',$);

or line 6030 #22979= IFCBUILDINGELEMENTPROXY('18384/187307',#1,'RS','HEA300',$,#22972,#22975,'1:100050:1455044958-100061',$)

Ples, let us know if there are any limitations to the IFC import in Robot as we need this feature for interfacing between ROBOT, BOCAD and maybe Tekla.

Thank you.

Best Regards.

IFC in Robot is not intended (is too limited) for steel model data exchange. I'd rather try CIS/2 or DSTV instead or best consider use of RSA and Advance Steel as there is a direct link between them.

Hi Artur.

I'm sorry but I can't read anything from the image you sent. But, what you mean with "correct IFC syntax". Is it wrong the one generated by BOCAD Steel?

Thanks, regards

Alejandro.
