Robot Corus CHS Sections

I'm currently designing a structure in the UK that is mostly comprised of CHS sections and I'm in the process of optimising and rationalising the steelwork results.

However, I've noticed that there are some discrepancies between section sizes that are used in the Corus and the ones quoted within the Tata Steel Blue Book - an example being a 406.4x20CHS is in the Corus database but is not available from Tata (sizes only go up to 16mm dia from Tata), and conversely the Corus database does not include sections marked in the Blue Book as '# - check availability' as well as common sections such as 88.9x8CHS or the 114.3x8CHS. It's important that the sections I use are actually listed in the Blue Book (limited availability aside).

I have looked for the Tata steel sections xml file to load into Robot but to no avail - has anyone had a similar issue? Or is the only option to copy the Corus xml file and remove the sections that are not available and add in the sections that I need?

Many thanks in advance

Hello Daniel,

thank you for drawing attention to the changes in the available section sizes for Corus/Tata.

It will be necessary to update the database.

As for now the best approach is to copy CorusPro.xml, rename it, open in Robot section database viewer (using in Robot for instance Tools > Section Database) and here remove the sections that are not available and add in the sections that you need. Removing and adding can be also replaced by the modification of existing ones.

Similar operations are shown by Rafal close to 30 minutes in the recording of the webinar How to create and run code verification of user defined section

It is also possible to use in Robot Section Definition module as shown in above webinar.

And for shapes like CHS the efficient way may be also defining them as parametric sections from Sections dialogue and then using "Save to database" from here.

Thanks for the reply Pawel.

Can you confirm whether an updated database will be provided for use in the future?

In the meantime I can look into copying and amending the Corus database to at least remove the sections that are unavailable. However, the sheer number of sections I will need to add in manually make it unfeasible and that means that I'll be working with a reduced database (I'm aware the vast majority of sections missing are the limited availability sections so not a huge inconvenience, but it would be helpful to have the option to have them).

Could you also send an alternative link to the video - the one you sent is unavailable.

Many thanks for your assistance

Daniel,

I have logged the change request to update the database.

Here is the updated link to the video ( I have also corrected the link in my previous post).
