How to convert loads into masses for the seismic equivalent lateral force method

Hi All,

I think there is problem with seismic equivalent lateral force method which is related to mass source 

Robot only consider the self weight of the structure when it calculates this force .

There is no option to include other loads to seismic mass .

There is no option to include other loads to seismic mass.

 

You may use Load to mass conversion option to add any loads to seismic mass.

Hi @mustafahesenow

 

Mind that for this type of analysis self weight is ALWAYS automatically included so you should't convert it (again).

What if I have 2 seismic cases one dynamic and one static or even both of them static with different load to mass conversion

Do you think this is doable in one model ?

Hi Mustafa,

 

Tricky but doable Smiley Happy

 

As you know you can assign different load to mass conversions to the modal and the following response spectra analyses but for the static seismic it is done by the global (to all) flag. If so the required steps would be:

 

1. Use the global load to mass conversion for the cases you want to convert for static seismic

2. Add conversion of 'missing' cases and convert additionally created dummy -1*load cases you want to exclude from the global conversion for the modal case followed by response spectra ones

But by this case both of the 2 static seismic cases have the same loads (means they are same exactly in load conversion )

My thinking that we cant make 2 seismic static cases with different mass conversion in one model one time 

As example :

Static seismic case 1 with mass conversion all dead load 

Static seismic case 2 with mass conversion all dead load + 0.25 Live load

 

Robot will proceed for both of the 2 seismic load cases with mass conversion Dl +0.25 LL 

 

That why  I wrote this topic to draw your attention That for seismic static load it should be add it in mass conversion similar to modal case 

So it can easily specify for each load case its mass.

What if I have 2 seismic cases one dynamic and one static 

 

For two static this cannot be done as it is not possible to assign the conversion to the selected static seismic case Smiley Sad
