I wanna make sure the member red arrow points to only takes compression; how should I define the linear release to make it so? I wish to do this without using "compression only" members.

Using "Compression only" bars or the method Stephane described will not avoid having non linear analysis ,if is that what you want.

It is automatic

@yiviw97057

Usually this type of structure uses tension only guys.
Is there a reason to use them as compression only?

Could I ask how releasing Ry and Rz in one end creates a compression member?

It's up to you which is the best. It is useful to show that it is possible to combine bidirectional (RY RZ) and unidirectional (UX+) releases
