Copy Walls Bug

Hi all,

I am working on a pretty big project - a tower + residential part with a lot of complex modelling (walls with openings, rigid links, etc.).
I've noticed an annoying bug, that occurred the previous week while working on the tower - replicating selected elements (predominantly walls) by using the copy content of the story option (over the selection) copied a lot of other elements (frame elements, slabs, etc) with a random height pattern, which created an enormous mess.

Now the same bug appeared in the residential part of the model (see attached).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Borislav

Hi @BorislavIvanov

Could you zip and attach the model? Please indicate the numbers of the selected panels.

Here's the model (see attached).
The list of the elements I am trying to copy is as follows:
234to240By2 241 2978 2979 2984to2987 2990 2991 3020 3021 3028

Thanks,

Borislav

Accepted solution

Hi @BorislavIvanov

I'm not able to tell why internally Robot selects more objects than this list but while it is being investigate I want to indicate the alternative approach which you may find helpful:

Arthur,

Thanks for your time.
That's pretty much what I did (except for modifying the walls one by one with the contour definition option and deleting the unnecessary bars, which stay selected while using the copy command (this is unfortunately not the case when using copy content of the story option)).
As I corrected the walls and deleted the bars, the bug didn't show again.

Thanks again,

Borislav

Hi @BorislavIvanov

The initial result of the investigation is that Robot for some reason replaces the numbers of openings defined in the selected walls (which are 'linked' to them) with 'others' which happens to be bars. We will look into it deeper. Thank you for notifying us about this situation.

Arthur,

Several other bugs occurred as well, the most annoying of which shows the reverse problem - deleting openings deletes other structural elements. Is there any solution for this?

Along with the aforementioned problem, the program seems to crash too often, as well as showed some problems with the load table. However, if I try to open it in repair mode the openings are getting converted into geometrical objects, respectively the walls are getting meshed in the openings areas, which I cannot fix as well.

However, the most important for me now is to be able to delete some of the openings. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Borislav

Hi @BorislavIvanov

Could you give me the number of an opening from the model you attached previously which behaves in this way when you delete it?

Arthut,

I've tried to find a workaround - I isolated the problematic opening and changed the wall geometry so it's now a geometrical object.
See model attached - the number is 5016.

Thanks,
Borislav

Hi @BorislavIvanov

After opening the model in the repair model I was able to delete the indicated contour without any other objects being affected.

Arthur,

See attached screenshots - it's still deleting elements on my side.

Thanks,

Hi @BorislavIvanov

Is it the same for 'my' recovered model?

Arthur,

It works in the recovered model - no elements are getting deleted.

However, all openings seem to be transferred to geometrical objects, which doesn't affect the mesh of the wall - any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Borislav

It's my bad, it seems to work (your repaired model).
I've tried repair several hours ago and it was still deleting elements after the delete.
As I have some progress on the already attached model (a few posts ago), would it be ok if I upload you a model in an hour, so you can repair it again - it seems that your repair works better than mine?

Thanks,
Borislav

Arthur,

Here's the model (see attached). I'd appreciate if you repair this one as well when you have the time.

Thanks,

Borislav
