Combine 2 Members in 1 - Steel Frame

Hi,

I have modelled a steel frame building with a duo-pitch roof.

At the appex of the roof I have 2 members meeting which will form 1 single cranked beam.

Both beams are both Fixed/Pinned so that the two members meet at the fixed connection and the members have pinned connections at their supports. In my hand calculations I have designed one single member but on Robot both members are treated seperately.

Is it possible to combine the 2 members so that Robot analyses and designs it as 1. I am thinking about the effective length of the single beam being important as well as the deflection limits.

Cheers

Richard

hi
often i need to join two different beams or columns and i seeking for that answer from a long time
and when modeling steel like me there is many many bars and need joint command even more
but no solution for now
my method is to delete one part and then extend the other
this method prevents the other elements to follow the stretch one which is happened when drag node or element

hope that helps a little

Good luck

Ivan

on Design/Steel members design options/code paremeters , you can modify the bar effective length

You should define a superbar.
