Can you modify the shear area of a cross section?

I have made several tapered cross section beams and set it to be concrete. I was wondering how does shear area come into play here? What will it matter for (how much shear force each beam takes? shear deformation? will it matter in this beam element model?) Can I modify this shear area in Robot?

Hi @yiviw97057

It is not possible for tapered (parametric)  sections. For those sections all properties are calculated automatically in respect to their geometry (you can change web width to midify shear area).  You can define arbitrary shear area using manual section parameters definiton.

For section from databases Shear areas in database can be modified.

This question is not directly related to Robot, but by having the incorrect shear area in my cross section what am I getting wrong? Will the internal forces be correct (moment, shear)? What about deflection?

Hi @yiviw97057

Shear forces are considered while deformation calculation after applying the following feature

(in Geometry >Additional Attributes >Advanced Bar properties) for selected bars
