Best hardware configuration

Hi everyone.

I have just graduated from university in Poland and starting some real work now. Thanks to some extra funds I am able to buy a powerful desktop computer and here is my question, because one of the first projects I would take part in will be a multistorey building (~20 floors), what do you think is the best hardware configuration for making and fast calculating huge models.

Thanks in advance,

Bartek

Hi @Anonymous

First of all congratulations 🙂

If it is for Robot then focus more on the processor speed than number of cores as most of the model generation operations are sequential rather than parallel.

If I managed to answer your question(s) press the Accept as Solution button please. This will help other users to find solution(s) much faster. Thank you.

Thanks for your answer.

So the first thing will be the proccesor speed. And what should be the next thing that is importart? I assume that a graphic card is not so important cause there is not a lot of complex details or rendering in Robot models, so maybe RAM memory?

Good day, Artur!

I have to make the same choice about how to upgrade my PC for futher calculations in Robot and already spent hours to keep up with CPU market nowadays... I don't have large models yet but like analysing with high density mesh and many tries of different settings in calculations so as calculation speed faster as better.

So here are couple of questions regarding this them:

1. Which option is the best, like: it could be intel i5 8600K with 6 cores and 4.5-4.8 GHz speed or i7 8700K with 6 cores, 12 threads and boost to 5.0 GHz. But with this budget AMD has some cpus with 8 cores/16 threads or even 12/24, 18/36 cores/threads but with lower core speed like 3.8 GHz. I am in doubt will all this cores be used in calculations?

2. RAM going to be like 32 Gb with 2666 MHz but assume as higher frequency as better (like 3200 MHz)?

3. Could you shear which exactly cpu you use and are you satisfied with it?

I tried to fined detail discussion about hardware for Robot but found only some little topics, so maybe you can give a link for something.

Thanks!

Hi,

good lead when choosing a CPU, might be checking it's single core performance - it is most relevant when software doesn't handle multicore usage very well. I think Robot is one of them. Check the link below:
