API & macros worth learning?

I work as a structural engineer, I focus on designing dairy facories. I looked a little bit into macro's en API.

My question is, for someone with little to no coding knowledge, is it worth learning?

Will that time investment pay out? 

I don't know if this is relevant but we are intergrating our robot model with revit.

For example I use excel spreadsheet to calculate certain loads or beams. I was wondering is it 

possible to connect excel spreadsheet with robot. That is something i can do with a macro or IPA but is looks pretty compicated. So i was wondering is it worth the time to learn this part?
