About define the buckling length coeficient

Hi admin,

Many thanks for your support of my previous trouble. Now I have one more:

I have a system with steel beam and concrete slab. 

The problem is the main beam is too long (~20m) and I want to decrease its buckling length depends on the sub-beam spacing (@3m).

But I wonder whether Robot will understand the buckling length for main beam is 3m/20m automatically or I must define it by:

or may I do another step?

Hello Annp_mth,

 

If you select, REAL: you can give in the longest buckling length of your column. In your case 3,0m

Or you select, COEFFICIENT and you give in 3/20 = 0,15.

 

If you modeled an column with beams, RSA can auto detact the beams and use these point to shorten the buckling length in y- or/and z- orientation, see below:

What is the diffirent between 2 option below?

They had the same results of Lamz.

Accepted solution

All definitions relative to L value will be referring to 5m instead of 15. This is not recommended and you may find some examples that such definition may result in incorrect verification on this forum. See the slide from the webinar on steel design:
