Hello all,

I need to create a steel connection in Revit between beams. Do you know how I could see the welds in 3D?

Thank you!

Hi @mairh_tsek

The welds inserted manually from the steel tab or the welds placed automatically via connections do not show as 3D solids, they are show as + symbols

Thank you for your answer.

So in order to have a 3d result I should create model in place elements?

Hi @mairh_tsek

Yes if you want to see a 3D elemt of the weld it will need to be modelled manually.

ok thank you.. One more question..is it possible to cut these beams like the image below ? (I already try to create a generic family with a void inside and the 'Cut with Voids When Loaded ' option selected..but nothing happens )

Thank you!

Yes its possible, the examples I have shown below use fucntions from the steel tab. The only thing to note is when you start using these they change the Beam to a steel fabrication element and some normal functions become disabled (which is why your method might not have worked) all info can be seen here - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/ENU/Revit-M...

I used either the Saw cut flange and changed the face it was cutting to

Or the contour cut and then sketch out the cut needed

Ive also made a short screencast showing how I did this modelling - https://autode.sk/3S9NpJG
