View range questions

I would like to think I have a good grasp of view ranges but I have been experiencing some wierdness.

A floor created on level 1 (0'-0") will show on level 2 (14'-0") when level 1 is clearly out of all view range set in level 2.

View range of level 2 is set to -11'-0" which is 3'-0" above the floor created on level 1 but it still shows in level 2. I have to raise the view range to 10'-0" to make the level 1 floor not show in level 2. In another project I have to raise the view range 10' above the floor to make it not show. I have checked this in  a new default Revit structural template and I have to set my view range 4 feet above the floor to hide it in level 2.

Am I missing something here? This is happening on at least 2 other machines. I haven't tested it on the others.

I have tested this out with Revit 2013, 14, and 15 and it is the same in all 3 versions but it only happens with floors. Framing and slabs behave as they  should. A view range set 1" off the level below and framing etc do not show but floors do.

I just found this article that says structural floors will show with a view range 4' above.

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2014/ENU...

Floors, structural floors, and foundation slabs located outside the view range use an adjusted range that is 4 feet (approximately 1.22 meters) below the bottom of the primary range. Floors are drawn with the Beyond line style if the floor exists within this adjusted range.

I have never encountered this before. Usually I don't need such a far view depth but in this case I did. Why are structural floors different? It seems to be by design but it is a bug as far as I am concerned.
